Good morning. A new day, a new endeavor. My first blog. I just finished perusing this site that Corky sent over to me. It's left me with a feeling of.... well, stillness, emptiness. I certainly knew about Chernobyl, albeit I was probably in my selfish "life beyond my borders isn't all that important stage of life". I think that even if my eyes and ears were open at that time, I could not have felt or understood what these pictures and text some twenty years later has done to me. Yes, this is a bizarre way to open a new blog on the adventures of our new life of discovery here on our tiny homestead, but here goes..
A young Ukranian woman has posted a photo journal motorcycle rides through Chernobyl and the area surrounding it. Included are pictures of the now-emptied city, maps of current radiation levels, and a discussion of how the area has changed. While the english is quite broken, it's often rather surreal, as well, with quotes like, 'I don't know how sound the silence to those tourists that they can not stand it, but to me after hitting a red line on my bike tacho it sound like all those ghosts cursing 1100cc kawasaki engine.'"
